A stockpile report can look precise while measuring the wrong thing. Before choosing UG21 for a quarry survey workflow, agree on the pile boundary, the surface beneath the material, the capture window, and the checks that will make the result acceptable to the inventory owner.

The aircraft is one part of that purchase. The commercial outcome is a defensible quantity with understandable limitations. This guide offers a procurement approach for aggregate operators and survey contractors, not a claim that a particular UG21 configuration has already delivered a stated measurement accuracy or operated at a named quarry.

Which Inventory Decision Will the Survey Support?

Start with the person who will use the number. A production supervisor may need a consistent indication of material movement. A financial reviewer may require a documented inventory method. A contractor preparing a payment application may need an agreed measurement boundary and independent review. These are different purchases even when the same piles appear in the photographs.

Ask the buyer to describe what happens after the report arrives. Will someone compare it with truck movements, authorize replenishment, reconcile a discrepancy, or approve a payment? Write down the required unit, reporting date, material identity, and reviewer. A volume report should not silently become a mass estimate. Make the Base Surface a Visible Assumption

Give Every Pile an Unambiguous Boundary

Ask for a marked plan that identifies each pile, its material code, and any excluded areas. Adjacent piles, retaining structures, conveyors, parked equipment, and inaccessible edges need explicit treatment. The survey team should know whether touching piles are separate inventories or one combined stock, and how the buyer expects their shared boundary to be determined.

Use a stable pile identifier instead of relying on descriptions such as the large pile near the entrance. Operations can change a site quickly. The identifier should connect the capture, processing boundary, quantity result, exception note, and accounting record. Retired or merged piles need a recorded relationship to their replacements so comparisons do not silently switch the object being measured.

A quarry is a working facility, not a static display. Agree on the business timestamp the report represents and how loading or dumping during the collection period will be recorded. An article cannot authorize a flight over active machinery or people.

The contract should identify the expected deliverables: pile boundary files, base-surface description, capture dates, coordinate information, processing notes, quantity tables, and a concise limitations statement. Agree on the format the buyer can actually inspect. An export that opens only on the contractor's workstation creates a support dependency that should be visible before purchase.

Can the same method be used for every pile? Ask the survey lead to explain which site conditions allow a shared approach and which need separate treatment. Do not assume a method accepted for one exposed pile is appropriate for an adjoining or partly obscured pile.

Who owns a remeasurement? Distinguish an incomplete capture, changed site conditions, revised buyer requirements, and disagreement about an approved assumption. Each can require different work. Define the review process and responsibility before either party treats an additional flight as automatically included.

What makes successive reports comparable? Maintain a clear relationship among pile identity, boundary revision, base revision, capture timestamp, coordinate information, and calculation method. Where a component changes, the report should say so instead of presenting an unexplained difference as material movement.
