What exactly should a seasonal vegetation survey reveal: visible canopy condition, access changes, a repeatable land-cover record, or the ground beneath vegetation? This is a planning guide for environmental contractors and land managers considering a VTOL workflow. Describe the Observable Before Choosing the Sensor

Keep a simple coverage decision sheet for each site. Record the intended observable, requested window, accepted substitution conditions, available ground context, and the person who may accept a limited result. During planning, walk through a hypothetical delay with the contractor. Would the work be rescheduled, narrowed, or delivered with an explicit exception? This exercise does not predict the weather or guarantee availability. It exposes whether the buyer and supplier interpret the same scope differently, while both can still revise the agreement without disturbing an active field campaign.

Does repeat mapping require the same aircraft every time? Ask the technical lead which parts of the measurement chain must remain comparable and what evidence would justify a change. Aircraft identity is only one input. Do not assume either that all replacements are harmless or that every change invalidates all prior work.

Can a vegetation map also serve as a terrain survey? Only if the proposed method and verification support that separate purpose. Put the ground requirement explicitly in the brief. Who approves a revised interpretation? Name the qualified reviewer and retain the reason for the revision.
